AI Powered Bar Launches

DataSparQ a company that combines data science, engineering, and design with your business priorities to create intelligent products that spark positive behavioral change has created an AI-powered bar that eases the pain in ordering in busy bars by employing the latest facial recognition technology. The AI-powered bar places customers in an “intelligently virtual queue” thus eliminating queue jumpers in bars.

The Software bundled together as a product will cost just a meager 199GBP to employ per month and it works by using a standard webcam, display screen, and Internet connection. The bar would eliminate underage drinking as speeds up ID checks, if a customer looks under 25, the system will prompt them to have their I.D. ready or let bar staff know if they’ve already been checked.

The technology has been on trial at 5cc Harrild & Sons bar in London, where bartender Luka Kovijanić says, "The regulars were a bit skeptical at first, but as soon as they saw it in action, they were sold. It enables us to maximize our pouring potential and cuts out the need for sharp elbows when it's busy." This data gathered from these sorts of trials by DataSparQ indicates that there was an overall reduction in serving times, equivalent to more than 1,600 pints poured over a year to your average down the road bar. This is a lot of time saved as research indicates that British people spend more than 2 months over a lifetime queuing for drinks. The technology also provides data insights to bar managers on drinking patterns and peak times, to help them optimize their staffing requirements.

Queuing is a part of British life that we all have to endure – but we wanted to do something to improve the experience.

Powered by machine learning technology, the innovative system works by displaying a live video of everyone queuing on a screen above the bar. A number appears above each customer’s head, which represents their place in the queue.
