Apple AI Causes Arrest
A student mistakenly arrested for stealing from Apple stores is suing the tech giant for $1 billion, claiming its AI linked video footage to his name.
Ousmane Bah, 18, said he was arrested at his home in New York in November and charged with stealing from an Apple store. The warrant included a photo that didn’t look anything like Ousmane, he said in a lawsuit filed Monday.
Ousmane claims that he received a summons from a court in Boston claiming that he stole $1,200 worth of Apple products in 2018, as claimed in the papers filed on Monday in Manhattan federal court.
The products included Apple Pencils, which retail for $99 each.The teen's life has been "deeply and negatively affected," according to the lawsuit. "He advanced through his freshman year of college experiencing constant anxiety and fear that at any moment he would be arrested again for a crime he did not commit.
