Baby X - The AI Powered Baby!

Soul Machines, the New Zealand based company, has quite literally humanised the AI model they created by turning it into an infant called Baby X. It is a 3D simulation of a human baby which has every body-part a human does, including a virtual brain and a virtual nervous system, all being controlled by deep neural networks. Mark Sager, the CEO of Soul Machines and the creator of Baby X, has based the infant on his own young child. He chose to simulate a baby because it would be the best place to start to teach AI human reactions and emotions; in a way, Sager has created a live brain simulation. It thinks and reacts giving us a chance to learn more about the human brain than ever before. It is experiencing the real world just like we do generate responses to stimuli on the fly.

Its brain is as accurate as we know currently about the human brain. It is learning everything from the start, experiencing childhood and having Sager as its father, interacting with the real world. Because it is an AI, it then retains and learns from all the information and responds to its environment like a real infant would, such as crying when scared.

“With the rapid acceleration of intelligent assistants and productivity applications using deep learning techniques, Mark and his team provide an emotional and social reasoning platform to existing and developing intelligence in the AI industry.” – Phil Chen of Horizons Venture.

Mark Sager - CEO of Soul Machines and the genius behind Baby X

Soul Machines will continue to develop emotionally responsive, intelligent avatars in the future. The approach that the two-time Oscar-winning scientist took to teach an AI human behaviour is truly genius! Mark Sager is also widely known for his work on Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Avatar, King Kong and Spiderman.
