Facebook Plans To Launch AI Voice Assistant
The lates news from Silicon Valley is that Facebook is introducing its own voice assistant based on AI and according to our sources it is intended to rival Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri. According to CNBC, the social network's augmented and virtual reality team led by Ira Snyder has been developing a voice AI since mid 2018.
A spokesperson from Facebook told CNBC :
"We are working to develop voice and AI assistant technologies that may work across our family of AR/VR products including Portal, Oculus and future products."
Facebook has previous experience developing AI assistants, but none that could rival Alexa or Siri. Facebook launched the M assistant for Messenger in 2015, which it ultimately axed last year. Facebook’s Portal does come in built with AI powered by Facebook but is limited in its capabilities Portal still has to rely on Alexa for deeper imbedded function now that Facebook developing its own fully fledged voice assistance to power their family of AR/VR products I can’t wait to see what Facebook brings to the already competitive table of voice assistants, that are now an integral part of many people’s life, as a core functionality throughout Facebook owned platforms.
