Google Stadia Announces Impressive New Machine Learning Feature

Today, at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Google announced their entry into the video game industry with their cloud gaming service called Google Stadia. The impressive ‘console killer’ boasts an outstanding 10.7 GPU teraflops powered by a custom AMD card and breezes past the PS4 Pro (4.2 GPU teraflops) and Xbox One X (6.0 GPU teraflops).

Aside from the power the service provides there are several features such as the Style Transfer ML that really makes Stadia unique. This clever feature uses machine learning to apply different art styles to the game in real time in a Stadia instance.

While this feature may not have much use while playing a game, Luz Sancho from Tequila Works thinks it can be a real game changer when it comes to game development. She says that a large part of their typical 24 month development cycle is dedicated to refining the art style of their games and Style Transfer can help in making that process more efficient and easier.
